In July, 2008 we brought you a free teleseminar/webinar just for parents of adolescents that focused on things teens have consistently reported as problematic communication patterns of their parents'. These are things that are almost guaranteed to get your adolescent to act out if you do them. Via a live online presentation, the author of this site who is also a therapist specializing with adolescents, Shannon K. Spellman, M.S.W., LCSW, LMFT, LISAC offered parents free tips on how to avoid these common pitfalls and improve their relationships with their teenagers.
In May of 2008 we brought you Challenging Adolescents with our featured expert, Dr. Bryan Post, PhD., LCSW. In this call we talked about teens that can be especially challenging for parents and professionals to deal with. These included adolescents that exhibit disruptive behavioral problems, and those that may have attachment issues including adoptive and foster children, along with kids who have been through trauma of some sort. These adolescents often present with angry, defiant attitudes or behaviors that seem out of control and unresponsive to previous interventions.
Dr. Post has an incredibly effective tool for interrupting patterns of dishonesty and lying in kids. He graciously agreed to share this technique with you during our interview.
